Hyperbaric Chamber Operator:

Mission Search has been retained by Holmes Regional Medical Center, the flagship hospital of Health First, to identify, attract and qualify a talented professional for the position of Hyperbaric Chamber Operator for their new multi-place hyperbaric treatment program.

The Organization
Holmes Regional Medical Center is a busy 564-bed, Level II Trauma Center with an active Flight Program and a highly regarded Heart Institute. Health First, Inc (www.health-first.org) is the leading not-for-profit health care system serving Florida’s Brevard County. The area is known as Florida’s Space Coast. The Health First system, with patient revenues in excess of $1.2 billion and more than 6,000 employees, consists of three acute care hospitals with a total of 724 beds, 30 outpatient clinics, a home health service, a hospice and a medical equipment firm. Health-First also provides health insurance and third party administration services to more than 65,000 members through its Health First Health Plans subsidiary. Health First, Inc is ranked as one of the top 60 Integrated Health Systems in the United States.

Also integral to the system are the Cape Canaveral Hospital, a 150-bed full service acute care facility serving the North county and the employees of NASA; and the Palm Bay Community Hospital, a 60-bed community hospital (soon to be expanding) serving the South county. Both Holmes Regional Medical Center and Palm Bay Community Hospital have achieved Magnet Hospital status as designated by the ANCC.

The Opportunity
In an effort to enhance community healthcare Holmes Regional Medical Center is adding Hyperbaric Oxygen Treatment via a multi-place treatment chamber. The Chamber operator’s responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Daily start up and shutdown of chamber.
  • Ensures safe effective operation of the chamber and system components by recognizing and reporting potential and actual hazards to safe treatment to facility management and hyperbaric physicians.
  • Works closely with facility management and hyperbaric physicians to maintain adherence to procedures for safe hyperbaric treatment.
  • Administers hyperbaric oxygen therapy as prescribed by hyperbaric physicians.
  • Participates in wound care.
  • Assists with patient prep to include treatment profile.
  • Performs role as inside observer as necessary performing vital signs, administering Oxygen through BIBS system, performing glucose monitoring and treatments as required by patient condition and physician orders.

The Candidate
The desired candidate profile would include:

  • Certification as a Hyperbaric Technician.
  • Training, experience and credentials in one of the following: EMT, RT, PA, RN.
  • Basic knowledge of payor authorization process.
  • Maintain all appropriate licenses and certifications.
  • Current BLS and ACLS
  • Hyperbaric Clinical Experience a plus.
  • Knowledge regarding accrediting and regulatory agencies

Fellowship in Translational Perioperative Genomic Research:

The Department of Anesthesiology and the Perioperative Genomics Program at Duke University School of Medicine are currently accepting applications for a combined two- or three-year fellowship position in Translational Perioperative Genomic Research and Clinical Cardiothoracic Anesthesia starting July 2008 and 2009. This unique training program is structured as an initial one to two years of dedicated translational research with an emphasis on applications of genomic technologies to perioperative organ injury and protection, followed by a one-year clinical core in cardiothoracic anesthesiology and critical care medicine, including clinical rotations in transesophageal echocardiography, cardiothoracic intensive care, adult and congenital cardiac, and thoracic anesthesia. Additional opportunities to acquire more intense training in genomic medicine are available. Candidates from the US or the international anesthesia community, holding an MD or an MD/PhD degree and with previous experience in molecular biology are invited to apply. Proficiency with computational biology techniques will be considered a plus. Please send CV and letter of interest to:
