Conference Overview
Statement of Need
This is a one-day intensive hand on workshop specifically designed to teach ultrasound to Anesthesiologists of all skill levels ensuring that ultrasound is being used correctly and to its full potential. The use of ultrasound guided regional anesthesia could increase patient cases and successes in patient outcome.
Target Audience
This activity is designed to educate or refresh the knowledge of practicing anesthesiologists, critical care specialists, anesthesiology residents and students.
Learning Objectives
By the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Use and manipulate the controls of the ultrasound machine to improve the images on the screen.
- Identify the options for ultrasound probe and needle position in the performance of central venous and peripheral vascular cannulation using ultrasound.
- Recognize pattern and identify local anesthetic infusion during the performance of ultrasound guided nerve blocks above the clavicle; below the clavicle to include axillary, midhumeral and blocks in forearm and the lower limb.
- Review the options for ultrasound probe and needle position in the performance of single shot and catheter techniques in the performance of epidural, paravertebral and abdominal blocks.
