Statement of Need

This is a one-day intensive hands-on workshop specifically designed to teach ultrasound to Anesthesiologists of all skill levels ensuring that ultrasound is being used correctly and to its full potential. The use of ultrasound guided regional anesthesia could increase patient cases and success in patient outcome.

Target Audience

This activity is designed to educate or refresh the knowledge of practicing anesthesiologists, critical care specialists, anesthesiology residents and students.

Learning Objectives

By the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Use and manipulate the controls of the ultrasound machine to improve images on the screen.
  • Review the options for the ultrasound probe and needle position in the performance of single shot catheter ultrasound techniques in the performance of epidural, paravertebral and abodominal blocks.
  • Recognize the pattern and identify local anesthetic infusion during the performance of ultrasound guided nerve blocks above the clavicle, below the clavicle to include axillary, midhumeral and blocks in the forearm and lower extremities to include femoral, sciatic and popliteal.
