Gene-MAGIC Study
Sub-study of PREVENT - IV

Genetics of Myocardial Adverse Outcome/ Graft Failure In CABG

The objective of the Gene-MAGIC study is to understand the mechanisms underlying saphenous vein graft (SVG) failure and adverse myocardial outcomes following coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery. Aortocoronary bypass conduit failure remains an important source of myocardial injury and compromised long-term survival in patients undergoing surgical coronary revascularization. The purpose of this study is to determine genetic risk factors modulation angiographic SVG disease progression one year post CABG and to determine risk factors modulation clinical myocardial outcomes 5 years post CABG.

Information collected from this study may result in more detailed understanding of mechanisms underling saphenous vein graft (SVG) failure after coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery and should facilitate the development of agents or targeted gene therapy designed to prevent it, potentially leading to improved outcome in this high-risk population.

This study is funded by the National Institutes of Health.
