Cardiopulmonary Bypass Research Laboratory
(Division of the Multidisciplinary Neuroprotection Laboratories)

The cardiopulmonary research laboratory is an active basic science laboratory established to explore the mechanisms of cerebral injury following cardiac surgery utilizing a rodent model of cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB). Ongoing research includes the investigation of several neuroprotective pharmacologic strategies, several of which have entered clinical trials. Due to the versatility of the models established, we are also actively pursing investigations into the myocardial, renal, inflammatory, and hematologic abnormalities associated with CPB.
